Spring is finally here, and whilst the weather continues to range wildly from unseasonably warm to typically precipitous, a lot of people are in the process of getting their conservatories ready for summer.

Part of this is general spring cleaning, checking and booking any repairs, and ensuring that any additional work is completed to make it a beautiful place to entertain this summer.

With only a couple of months left before summer officially starts, here are some top tips for preparing your conservatory for an unforgettable summer.

Declutter From Winter

Everyone uses their conservatory differently over the summer, but many people will convert the extra space into a home office, home gym or even just a storage space full of anything that is fine gathering dust.

Take a bit of free time to tidy away everything and it is remarkable how much of a difference it can make, not least because you can arrange your furniture in a way that makes the conservatory perfect for entertaining come rain or shine.

In some cases, decluttering and spring cleaning are the only major tasks that need completing, particularly if you have recently renovated or updated your conservatory, but when fixes need to be made, they need to be prioritised in order of importance.

Focus On Essential Fixes

Once you have more space to work with, take stock of any issues or potential issues that might spoil the enjoyment of your conservatory in the summer.

Some of these, such as condensation, leaks or outright damage to the conservatory itself should be fixed as soon as possible, but it is also essential to consider the long-term enjoyment of your conservatory as well.

If you have an older UPVC conservatory with a lot of single-glazed windows, consider either changing to double-glazing or replacing the roof entirely with a solid alternative that will provide better insulation in winter and reduce the heat and glare of the conservatory in the summer.

Bring The Outside In

The most unique aspect of conservatories, one that has been a major part of their design since the early era of the orangery, is that they link the outdoors with the indoors.

Many conservatories have wide doors and a lot of glass to allow as much sunshine in as possible, and this concept can be extended to incorporating plants and greenery into the conservatory space.

Placing hanging plants, plant pots and succulents around the windowsill and near the doorway can be an incredible way to add not only a summer look but enhance the ambience of a conservatory.

The best part of this is that adding greenery benefits smaller conservatories the most, as the plants dominate the space in a particularly positive way around the summertime.

Add Colour And Vibrancy

As a conservatory is often an unusual part of a home, it can benefit from a more experimental touch when it comes to decor.

Choose colourful accents such as cushions, blankets and works of summer-themed art, using the plants in your conservatory and garden as inspiration.

Look into your furniture choices and explore if there is anything you can add to give them a beautiful, elegant finishing touch.
